Spark Plugs
Most models use a single point 18 mm size plug with a short reach of the following type:
Most Models
- Champion D16 or Champion 8 COM (for typical light use)(standard)
- Champion D9, Champion UK10, or Champion K9 (for continuous long, full throttle running)
Less common or newer models use a single point 14 mm size plug of the following type:
QB (Curlew, Osprey, Kingfisher) 125 and 170 Models ONLY
- Champion N4
SD 160
- Champion N3 or Champion N4
Spark Plug Gap Settings
Check to see which ignition assembly your outboard is equipped with. Each has its own setting. Adjust your spark plug gap as follows:
- Mark I (Villiers) ignition assembly is 0.020 inches (0.53 mm)
- Mark II (Wipac) ignition assembly is 0.020 inches (0.53 mm)
- Mark III (Wipac) ignition assembly is 0.035 inches (0.9 mm) - Not Less
- Mark IV (Wipac) ignition assembly is 0.025 inches (0.65 mm)
Older 102 models had a setting between 0.015 and 0.018. This was due to the fuel used at the time. With today's fuels, a setting of 0.020 can be used instead.
